Such exemplary nurses as Virginia Henderson, Hildgard Peplau, Dorothea Orem, Sr. Callister Roy, Martha E. Rogers and Jean Watson brought to light the necessary elements that have been responsible for developing the nursing image as it exists within contemporary society. One such approach that encapsulates a primary objective of all nursing theories is that of the need to care. One might not think there would need to be a theory of caring in nursing, inasmuch as the entire foundation of the nursing profession is built upon nurturing.
