are two directors who demonstrate some very distinct similarities in the stylistic representations in their films. Though from two distinct countries of origin and film cultures, Jeunet and Almodovar
reference similar concepts, including the distinct nature of mise-en-scene, the relationship between sounds and images, and the rhythm of the scene sequences, all of which underscore stylistic similarities between these
two directors. At the same time, it should be recognized that the subject matter, the character development and the integration of music represent the major differences between these two
directors. Amelie: Jean-Pierre Jeunet The initial view of Jeunets Amelie underscores his originality as a director and in the telling of a specific story. The use of
newsreel-like footage of Amelies childhood and the snapshot motion of this segment of the film represents the kind of struggle and fast-paced childhood that resulted in multiple emotional injuries (Cunneen
15). These emotional injuries, sustained by her fathers obsessive view of her mothers death, result in the development of an adult Amelie who wants to make the world a
better place. Unfortunately, Amelies adult life seems defined by her desire to make the world a better place while neglecting her how interests and avoiding any real "living" (Cunneen
15). Amelies cautious nature is something that Jeunet attempts to develop not only through the elements of the character, but through the direct nature of his filmmaking, including his
