nature and another mans weak and insecure nature as a jealous individual. The corrupt man is Iago and the jealous man is Othello. Because of Othellos weak nature regarding his love, Iago takes advantage and shows his true corrupt nature. In the following paper we examine the two and thereby examine the themes of jealousy and corruption. Jealousy and Corruption In the most brief of examinations we can note that, "The protagonist, Othello, is a Moor well respected by senators for his valiant service in war and married to Desdemona, a Venetian woman....The antagonist, Iago, is an unscrupulous individualist who bitterly despises Othello" (William Shakespeares Othello). The play is filled with "Iagos villainous and intricate scheme for revenge" (William Shakespeares Othello). It should, perhaps be noted, that although the paper discussed Othellos jealousy, because it is the focus of the play, one must also note that Iago is corrupt and villainous, seeking revenge, because he too is jealous. Iago believes that he deserves far greater treatment, and a far greater position in the court, than he currently possesses. He is also jealous of Othello for he would himself like to have Desdemona perhaps And, in many ways, it is Iagos jealousy which leads him to be the corrupt individual that he is. That said we move on with a discussion of Othellos jealousy. Othello is convinced, through many different plays made by Iago, that his wife does not love him and is cheating on him. He cannot handle that possibility, by any stretch of the imagination. He does not believe her pleas that she is faithful and truly in love with him.
