of hardware and software, they are demanding more than before and expecting to be provided. This has been a push factor for both processors and the development of java.
The development of the 64 bit processor has been anticipated due to the increased power of process that it will facilitate. In considering
this increased power there will also be a knock on effect to other related processes and application, for example, the running of Java under 64 bit will be impacted. To
understand how this impact may occur the first stage is to look at the impact of the 64 but processor and the apply this to the way it will interface
with Java. In simple terms a 64 bit processor will be twice as fast as a standard 32 bit processor, as it is able to undertake processing at twice
the speed, twice the bits of 0 or 1 cycles that are completed by a 32 bit processor (Basline, 2003). However, the real impact on in the number of combination
that 64 bit would be capable of processing, and in reality this is more than a doubling of the speed (Basline, 2003). If we factor 32 bits, this will equate
to possible combinations numbering to 4,294,967,296, which is equal to 4 gigabytes of data (Basline, 2003). In looking at 64 bit in the same way there will be 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 combinations
possible, a exponential increase, this equates to a theoretical processing of 16 exabytes (Basline, 2003). An exabyte is two magnitudes past a terabyte (Basline, 2003). This would indicate that the
processor will make any comforter that uses it much faster and as such anything that it runs, such as Java, faster. However, this is not necessarily the case, The capacity
