examination of his work and his political involvement. Jacques-Louis David The student requesting this paper can first look at the way in which David was involved in the
political turmoil that surrounded him at the time. For example, while many artists have a tendency, throughout history, to really make comments subtly through their work, illustrating social problems or
concerns, they are not generally individuals who have become actively involved in politics. But, there is powerful evidence, even in the portraits done by David, that he was immersed in
the political and social struggles of the time, not standing merely as an observer. In relationship to his political involvement, "David enthusiastically greeted the French Revolution and from 1789
he actively participated in political life. In 1791 he was elected a deputy of the Convention from Paris. He voted for the death of Louis XVI in 1793 and supported
Robespierres and the left radicals regime" (Olgas Gallery). He engaged in a political career and when that failed her returned to painting (Olgas Gallery). One of his most famous paintings
of this time was The Intervention of the Sabine Women (Olgas Gallery). And, interestingly enough, this was very political for it depicted how he was "saved by the intervention of
his estranged wife" when he was imprisoned (Artchive). This particular painting is a powerful illustration of how political his work could be,
