an instant, an instant that will never be seen again, providing the viewer with an image that could only otherwise be described. One of the most powerful images captured in
a photograph was that which was taken by Robert H. Jackson. Jackson was in the right place at the right time to capture the instant that Lee Harvey Oswald was
shot to death by Jack Ruby. In the following paper we examine the importance of this photograph and then discuss how photographs such as these offer something for the photographer
today. The Photograph Many strongly agree with the following statement, made in regards to Jacksons photo: "Jacksons camera certainly caught that rare moment in time; the grey area
between certainty and unreality. Jack Ruby was in a posture that spoke of conviction and drive and there was something in Oswalds face; a look of passion thats hard to
duplicate" (In-A-Gadda-Da-Oswald). We note that "A young photographer, Bob Jackson, was among several photojournalists covering the transfer of Lee Oswald to the county jail facility. At 11:21 a.m., Dallas
time, Bob opened the shutter of his camera and recorded a fleeting, rare moment," capturing something that no one else even came close to capturing (Bob Jackson Freezes Time). His
image was incredibly different than all others from the same approximate moment for it "captured the totality of the moment on a single frame and would not have happened, had
he pressed the shutter release a half-second earlier or later. Oswalds face registers the anguish and pain produced by a bullet tearing through his abdomen and damaging nearly every organ"
