variety of subsidiaries, such as the JPMorgan Private Bank and JPMorgan Asset Management (Caione, 2010). The company started out as a
water company, created in 1799 to bring water to Manhattan (Caione, 2010). However, there was a provision buried in its incorporation documents to allow the company to provide banking services
(Caione, 2010). In 1877, Chase National Bank was formed, and in 2001, the organization closed on JP Morgan, an investment banking company, to become JPMorgan Chase & Co. What
is the organizations structure? How effective is this structure with respect to its strategy? The organizational structure is similar to
that of many major corporation. It is overseen by a board of directors and under the direction of a CEO. In this case, the CEO (and chairman of the board)
is James Dimon, who also is a member of the institutions operating committee (Executive Committee, 2010). Reporting directly to the chair/CEO are the various divisions of the bank, which include
commercial banking, asset management, investment management, Asia Pacific, Finance, and Pacific Northwest (Executive Committee, 2010). There are also board committees that oversee everything from compensation, to public responsibility, to auditing.
