Holden, does not really want to grow up and is generally angry and afraid of growing up. The novel shows how, through many different stages, Holden tries to avoid growing
up. The following paper presents a journal entry tutorial relating to Salingers novel, with 6 different aspects being discussed. Catcher in the Rye 1. Holden does not wish
to grow up. From the beginning of the book we see him very upset about grown ups and about the world of grown ups. He is in school and runs
away to his little sister, hoping that she is still a little kid. But even she is beginning to grow up and he is not happy about that. She sees
things in him, irresponsible things, that make him realize that she is not innocent anymore. He runs from her and by the end of the book, as indicated in the
beginning of the book, is in a facility that can help him with his problems. He runs from one person and one event to another, trying to find a way
out but he cannot find a way out. It is obvious, throughout the entire book, that Holden never stays put and is always running. And, it seems that his running
to his sister, the only one he believes is young and innocent, will give him comfort. When he knows that she will not give him comfort his running becomes very
frantic. 2. One very good quote is from chapter 12 and in that quote Holden states, "Im always saying Glad tove met
you to someone Im not at all glad I met. If you want to stay alive, you have to say that stuff, though" (Salinger). This quotes makes Holden realize that
