Myths about world hunger The correct answer to my wrong thought, according to www.foodfirst.org, (1998), one of the non-profits, putting its appeal out over the internet: "Birth rates are falling rapidly worldwide as remaining regions of the Third World begin the demographic transition-when birth rates drop in response to an earlier decline in death rates. Although rapid population growth remains a serious concern in many countries, nowhere does population density explain hunger." Our internet answer continues, "Rapid population growth is not the root cause of hunger. Like hunger itself, it results from underlying inequities that deprive people, especially poor women, of economic opportunity and security. " Underlying inequities - this sounds like a quiz doesnt it? That means that some of the things that we, in the United States, take for granted are not readily available in other parts of the world. Things to look for, if we wonder about a countrys people to hunger ratio, would be, can the average person get an education or a job? Can he afford to buy land or receive health care.
