Even though there are a number of salient differences between the Russian and Italian futurist movements, there are also some areas of similarity, since both evolved at
around the same time and as a result of similar previous developments in art history. In addition, both movements were highly influential with regard to the way in which they
contributed to the development of the avant garde, even though their perspectives on such issues as war and technology were somewhat different.
Both the Italians and the Russians were heavily focused
on the way in which new technologies were developing at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, especially with regard to industrialisation and the impact
which this was having on all forms of social and economic change. They were both looking at ways in which art could be redefined in order to encompass and celebrate
not only the new technologies themselves but also the way in which they could be seen to be having a significant influence on society as a whole and the growth
