was founded by people who were immigrants, those being the English who claimed this country as their own and then moved forward to evolve through the immigration of many different
peoples. As one author notes, however, "Immigration is increasingly seen in terms of threats. The prevalent image of this threat in the developed countries of the North is one of
mass invasion by hundreds of millions of poor from around the world" (The UNESCO Courier, 2004). As such, this threat causes many to respond by militarizing their borders and more
strongly police inside the borders. "Immigration thus becomes suffused in a mentality of national crisis, and unilateral sovereign action emerges as the only effective response" (The UNESCO Courier, 2004).
With these issues and realities in hand the following paper examines some of the policies and difficulties that involve the immigration of Italians and Mexicans into the United States. The
paper first discusses these issues regarding Italians and then the same regarding Mexicans. The paper finishes with a discussion of the most important issues, as well as a comparison and
contrast of the realities as they relate to the two different cultures that are Italian and Mexican. Italian As can generally be assumed, there is not a tremendous
amount of concern over Italian immigration today. Italy is a relatively small country that poses no stress to the United States today in terms of immigration. But, back in the
