Therefore, it is interesting to note that much of what has been developed in terms of counseling practices, has been centered on a very Eurocentric point of view. Therefore, as more counselors are indeed faced with multi-cultural clientele and people of color, it becomes increasingly important to understand cross-cultural counseling issues and to have a better understanding of these populations. Specifically, it is the Hispanic population which will be addressed in terms of their culture, values and needs. This information will indeed impact the counseling needs of this group and will highlight the differences which necessarily must be addressed. It is impossible to effectively apply the same standards, practices and theories to every single client based on their inherent differences. As counselors, it is important to have a basic understanding of the specific ethnic group one is counseling in order to better determine their outlook and understand their perceptions and realities. The Hispanic Culture, Ethnic Background and the Case Against Traditional Counseling Methods Counseling is a method which helps people with problem-solving (Doherty, 2002).
