cold War was an incredibly volatile time in the world when the Soviet Union and the United States stood at a relative standstill, yet held the capability to conduct a
war like had never been seen in the history of the world. It was a time when nuclear capability was held by both sides and tensions ran high for several
decades until the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. The following paper examines some of the issues related to the Cold War, illustrating how
it was an incredibly stressful and tense period in history. Issues of the Cold War During WWII the United States and the Soviet Union were actually fighting on
the same side for a large portion of the war. However, following WWII the Soviet Union began to break away from the allies. This appears to be because both sides
had suspicions about what the other one was doing, or what the other was planning on doing. "Eager to consolidate influence over a number of countries near the Soviet Union,
Stalin pursued aggressive policies after World War II that provoked strong Western reaction. The United States worked to contain Soviet expansion in this period of international relations that has come
