temperate. So, over the course of this summer, as I watched local temperatures far exceed the historical averages, it impacted me a great deal. Because the heat was so overwhelming
to me, I found it hard to engage in life as I normally would; I went out less, especially during the day, I became less social overall, and my mood
was generally less good than it typically is during the summer months. On the whole, this might seem like a very slight complaint, but it highlights an important point; when
the physical environment does affect people, it tends to affect them in direct and immediate ways which require immediate redress. Because maintaining a proper body temperature is fundamental to biological
operation, feeling as if I was "too hot" all summer long was very disruptive to the normal course of my life. Of course, physical environments affect people in very different
ways. While some individuals found this summer too hot, other were not bothered by the changes in temperature at all. However, while I thrive in an urban environment with lots
to do, many people would feel anxious if their physical environment contained as much noise and business as I typically enjoy. This is just to illustrate the key point again:
that physical environment affects people in deep and fundamental ways and is very important to our ability to lead happy lives. For this reason, it is essential that we move
to increase our understanding of how we affect the physical environments in which we live, so that we can live in symbiosis with those environments, rather than in an antagonistic
