Introduction: Issues and Concepts Involved in the Movement From Justice to Social Justice After the World Trade Towers were destroyed, the U.S. government wanted to launch a mission called Infinite Justice. It seems as if that would be a noble cause, because the justice was deemed to be infinite. Yet, it appears that there was a conflict as infinite justice is a religious concept and so the name of the operation was changed. What that lesson teaches is that concepts of justice are not to be taken lightly, nor are they easily defined. One important thing to note is the difference between justice and social justice. The Sophist Thrasymachus said that "justice is nothing more than the interest of the stronger" and Comnes takes that sentiment a step further comparing it to "the recurring theme of Oscars TV nature programs and the not-so-hidden agenda of a bevy of human predators ranging from the fundamentalist right to real estate salespeople" (Comnes, 1998, p. 353). He explains that nature is not just, but rapacious (1998). It is instead a theater of adaptive and predatory deception (1998). One can clearly see that Thrasymachus, and others who recognize truth, believe that the survival of the fittest paradigm does hold true and negates the idea of justice that is intrinsic in nature. Rather, justice goes to societal and political values. In other words, justice is a social construction and it is something implemented to make things right again.
