gross miscarriages of justice that stemmed from the abuse of unequal power by Wall Street executives during the mortgage crisis. Through capitalizing on an insular system of packaging loan debt
as investment instruments in the form of collateralized debt obligations, insuring those obligations in such a manner as to hedge their bets against their own instruments, and operating in collusion
with ratings agencies to have those instruments be rated as stable as government securities, these executives managed to usher in a massive financial crisis that has cost thousands of people
their homes, and led almost directly to the global financial crisis which has cost millions of others their jobs, and in some cases, their lives. Despite evidence indicating that the
executives in power knew about the eventual consequences of these unregulated instruments, not a single Wall Street trader has been brought up on charges. That the people of the country
should have to suffer while the architects of the collapse receive multi-million dollar bonuses and suffer no consequence seems to me a gross example of unequal power. Luckily, I feel
as if people are starting to become more aware of the reality of the imbalance of power in the United States, as evidenced by the growing number of protest movements
across the country. While little has yet been done, legally or politically speaking, about the unequal power held by the nations corporations and wealthiest 1%, at the very least, awareness
is on the rise, and the likelihood of some future change seems to be growing. 2. Define ?social justice? and then discuss how
