to prevent but it is possible. Advocacy groups across the nation have worked to reduce some of the key factors involved with asthma, such as smoking in public places and
indoor air quality. The goal of public health advocacy is to help health professionals overcome barriers that block public health objectives and to increase the willingness and capabilities of communities
and individuals to achieve health goals that intend to improve the publics health (Lazar, 2010). There are proven strategies for advocacy. Christoffes (2000) conceptual framework, which is the most
often-cited framework, includes three steps: information, strategy, and action. Each has a number of components: 1. Information stage includes activities that name, identify, describe, and quantify the public health issue.
Quantifying will allow the advocate to determine what patterns may exist with the health problem. This also will show if there are geographic or demographic patters and may provide insight
into causes and prevention (Christoffel, 2000). During this stage, the advocate for childhood asthma would request data from health organizations that would reveal an approximate number of children suffering from
asthma in that geographic area. The advocate would conduct research and identify gaps in the research. They may even participate in a research study (Bibby, 2009). Information can be sent
home to parents by schools. This would include fact sheets about asthma and steps to prevent it. Information given to parents could include the number of children in America who
