that transactional leadership does not have a useful role among educators. As Burns points out, transactional leaders "get things done by making tasks clear and providing such rewards as are
at their disposal...to staff members who perform appropriately" (Hughes, 15). This type of leader is noted for being able to sustain "intensely stable organizations where there is little or
no perceived need for change" (Hughes 15). In other words, transactional leadership is good at maintaining the status quo. However, the status quo in todays school systems is frequently in
a state of flux. Transformational leaders use "their knowledge and skills" in order to work both inside and outside of their organizations in order to create new directions for their
schools, mobilizing resources, and responding both to present challenges and foreseeing possible future problems (Hughes 15). As this indicates, transformational leaders are more adaptable, more flexible, as their methods
tend to allocate authority and create horizontal power structures in their schools that create productive, collaborate atmospheres. As this indicates, transformational leadership is what is called for in todays rapidly
changing educational environment. In transformational leadership, as the name implies, administrative leaders, such as the school principal, "transform" their environments by creating context in which others are empowered to achieve
leadership roles. The followers of the transformation leader become leaders themselves, and this is what is required in order for todays school reforms to be effective. TCG or SIGN,
