they will. This is a rather prevalent phenomenon where someone from an ethnic group prefers traditional foods-some call it comfort food-to new foods or foods of the dominant culture. There
are many possible reasons for such a preference inclusive of the fact that most people simply prefer foods to which they have become accustomed. A student writing on this subject
maintains that " people of Israeli descent are more likely to maintain their cultural diversity through food." It appears that this is the case, but the reasons why are
complex. It does not appear that Israelis consciously decide to eat a certain way for the sake of maintaining their cultural heritage solely, but complex factors do arise aligned with
their food choices. One factor involved in food choice does go to the traditional and are aligned with things like habit, custom, ethnicity and religion (McKee &
Harden, 1990). Although it is true that people do tend to like foods associated with tradition, a difficulty in studying this subject is that there is an individual nature related
to food preference (McKee & Harden, 1990). Indeed, even within families, there are varied food preferences and choices made. Individuals prefer foods based on their biological makeup as well
as experiences. That said, there have been some studies done on food patterns (McKee & Harden, 1990). It appears that the students hypothesis has merit, but there are a
number of things that might help to explain this. For instance, the food preferences of Jewish families are to some extent aligned with religion (McKee & Harden, 1990). This
