book Island of Terror: Battle of Iwo Jima is a very good graphic book that tells the story of the battle of Iwo Jima. The following paper offers a timeline
of events in the book, an alternative timeline, and a summary of the book. Timeline * The battle first began when the Marines arrived with amphibious vehicles that
were driven onto the shores of Iwo Jima. There was not many Japanese men to stop them but there was were "15-feet high terraces of soft black volcanic ash. Tanks
and landing vehicles got stuck and could not move. The troops sank to their ankles. Every step was a major effort" (Hama; Williams 9). * The leader of the Japanese
military on the island was General Kuribayashi. He was told to defend the island "to the last man if necessary" (Hama; Williams 13). He had written a letter to his
wife that said she should not plan for his return. This shows how strong and determined he was to do the job that the Japanese military had given him. It
