women are oppressed generally come from the western world that does not seem to accept the fact that the Islamic women may simply be only following their religion and that
they are ultimately very happy in their roles as wives and mothers. The western world, however argues strongly, along with some Islamic women, that the Islamic women are held back,
refused opportunity to be more than who they are in a mans world, and ultimately oppressed in many ways. The following paper examines both sides and argues that Islamic women
are not, and have never really been, oppressed. Islamic Women One author indicates the following in regards to this topic, stating, "The status of Muslim, among many topics
of interest to non-Muslims, seems to always evolve around the theme of their rights, or a lack of it. The media portrayal of Muslim women is usually along the
lines of oppression and mystery" (Mah). They are seen as oppressed because they must cover themselves almost completely and they are apparently not allowed to leave the house except for
specific reasons. As one author indicates, in arguing that oppression exists, "According to Islam: Women belong to men...women are deemed to be inferior to men. Women are mens belongings and
women can have no authority over men" (Kamguian). Or, according to another author, Islamic women who give birth to a child out of wedlock are "stoned to death" (Kasem).
From the brief look above it seems that there are likely many ways in which women in Islam are oppressed. But, on the other hand the religion and the belief
