principle of all laws is that all men are equal. However, just because there is a single legal system recognized by the state this does not mean it is the
only set of laws recognized by certain members of the community. For example, in Queensland in Australia there is the Queensland criminal justice system and are supporting laws, this is
recognized by the state. However, there are also a number of different ethnic minorities who may also recognize their own legal systems. For example, while aboriginal people may be held
to account under the Queensland criminal justice system, there is also the customary aboriginal law which they are likely to recognize and may insert impact on the way their community
judges, and possibly punishes them. Likewise, for a Muslim, as well as being obliged to follow state and federal law, there is also Islamic law; also known as Sharia law.
All forms of law may be seen as wide-ranging, but when looking at aspects of criminal law or the criminal justice system there are also some commonalities in the way
that the law has been developed and the way it is implemented. In each case the evolution of the law may be seen as reflecting social developments and the
needs of the society which was to serve. In all cases there may also be the argument that the laws include a degree of idealism and a limited degree of
latitude in the way that the laws are to be interpreted. It is not only the laws which change over time, but the way they are interpreted. The criminal justice
