come in contact with, as their empire expanded in the 7th and 8th centuries; these included the Persian, Indian, Chinese and Greek civilizations among others (The Islamic world to 1600).
Muslim scholars took books from other cultures and translated them into Arabic, then used them to develop their own ideas (The Islamic world to 1600). For example, they took "Aristotles
philosophy, Ptolemys geography, Hippocrates medicine ... and either added to or contradicted them with new discoveries" (The Islamic world to 1600). Muslim ideas made their way to medieval Europe where
