the case as they interacted with many different cultures, instilling their influence on other cultures art and also being influenced themselves by the art of other cultures. The following paper
examines this relationship as it involves the Islamic world and China. Islamic Art and China "Islamic art is perhaps the most accessible manifestation of a complex civilization that
often seems enigmatic to outsiders. Through its brilliant use of color and its superb balance between design and form, Islamic art creates an immediate visual impact" (Museum Associates). It is
also an art movement that is very deeply connected to its religion as well, thus making it a very spiritual and religious expression as well as simply an artistic expression
(Islamic Art). In terms of its history, when considering it is "Islamic" art, one must understand first that "Islam began as a
religious movement in early 7th century Arabia and quickly spread throughout the Middle East" (Islamic Art). Within a century Muslims had essentially conquered a great deal of the known world,
areas of the Middle East as well as regions of Africa, Europe, and Asia (Islamic Art). Another author notes that, "The interchange of cultures and combinations of arts among nations
living in a vast area, which included North Africa, a part of Europe, and the Middle East, created a type of art, known as Islamic Art" (Sarhangi). And, the Islamic
