The contention has been presented again and again that Islam represents a multifaceted faith, not just the faith associated with terrorist movements like Al-Queda, the Taliban and Hamas.
While these three groups are definitively identified in most cases as radical Islamic extremists, the argument goes that there are more gentler, more socially acceptable, facets of Islam.
It has even been contended that it is the West that is responsible, in part, for the radicalization of Islam. The reality of the matter, however, is that Islam
is a religion whose major tenants dont allow its followers to live in harmony with non-Muslims. Indeed, the thesis must be presented that contemporary Islam is a religion that
not only thrives on intercultural friction but demands that friction. An equally important component of that thesis, however, is that this has not always been the case. History
demonstrates that Muslims peacefully coexist side by side with non-Muslims. All that is necessary is mutual respect. From a Western perspective
it is easy to jump to the conclusion that Islam itself is responsible for the treatment it receives in the West. One has only to look at recent history
