The clash between Christianity and Islam which characterizes our modern world actually has it roots imbedded deeply into world history. Indeed, the development of
these two religions have occurred largely side by side. With that development has come considerable friction and societal unrest. The purpose of this paper is to describe the
development of Christianity in Carolingian France and compare that development to the development of the Islamic empire. It will quickly be revealed that there are many similarities in both
the impetus for the development of these religions as well as many similarities in their impact on the contemporary world. Christianity would reach
its full impetus in Carolingian France in the seventh century AD. This impact came in recognition of the fact that France was one of the most powerful players in
western Europe at the time. The nobility at the time was composed of both Frankish kings and the Merovingian king, the latter of whose role was to soon be
demoted to essentially a figurehead in the face of the power of the Carolingian family. This family would first spawn Pepin I of Austrasia and then Pepin III (also
known as Pepin the Short) who would ultimately depose the last Merovingian king and become a king himself. This hierarchical overturn is at the root of the development of
Christianity in France as Pepin the Short was only able to accomplish the overturn by allying himself with Pope Stephen II and through a recognition of the papacys temporal power,
a power which then extended to Rome but which would ultimately extend to the future Papal states. In return for his promotion to king, Pepin the Short would pledge
