Islam is being examined. While naturally a very righteous and loving perspective, there are those who take Islam literally to the extreme and thus present a religion to the world
that is angry and violent. Ever since the attacks of 9/11 the world has paid close attention, and offered much powerful negative criticism, to Islam. However, as could be
intelligently understood, there is far more to Islam than 9/11 and far more to Islam than hatred and violence. Islam immerses itself in social justice, human concerns, politics, international issues,
and must more. The following paper examines Islam in a modern world as it primarily relates to Pakistan and Iran today. The paper generally argues that Islam is not a
violent entity, but rather an evolving one that speaks to many people in many ways. Islam Today In first examining the
modern issues of Islam it is important to lay the foundation of an understanding of Islam, historically and globally. According to Wenner (2001) "The history of Islam centers around one
person, Muhammad (also spelled Muhammed or Mohammed)", a man who "became dissatisfied with polytheism and came to believe in one God, Allah." Like perhaps other founding religious instigators he was
not embraced by his homeland and moved on to another region where he was embraced (Wenner, 2001). His physical movement from Mecca to Medina is called "the flight" or Hijirat
