The following is an example paper about Islam that employs the APA method of citation. There are various names for the religion founded by Muhammed, but the correct name is Islam. Followers of this religion are typically referred to as "Moslem," which means one who has submitted himself to Gods will (Matthew and Platt, 2004). The heart and soul of Islamic society is the Quran, which is the holy book of Islam in which the words of the Prophet Muhammad are recorded. The Quran draws on the traditions of both Judaism and Christianity, acknowledging that both Abraham and Jesus were likewise divinely inspirited prophets. Islam sees itself as the latest in this tradition of monotheistic faith, but honors both Jews and Christians as "People of the Book" (Matthews and Platt, 2004, p. 192). By this phrase, Moslems mean that perceive Jews and Christians as people who place faith in a supreme being and endeavor to live by his word s recorded in holy scriptures. Westerners are frequently surprised to learn that believers in Islam consider both Abraham and Jesus to be Moslems. The word "Moslem" means one who has submitted himself to God and since these men were obedient to Gods will, they fall under this category (Matthew and Platt, 2004).
