The Cold War had its ups and downs and lasted for quite some time. It is known that it began just after World War II ("Cold War," 2008). Yet, when
it ended is subject to debate. The concept of the cold war was that shortly after WWII, the powerful nations were afraid to fight or engage in a hot war
("Cold War," 2008). Thus, they fought each other indirectly ("Cold War," 2008). The Cold War is known for putting the two large nations at the time-the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.-at
odds. During the early period of the cold war, these were the only two superpowers in the world ("Cold War," 2008). The entire world was involved even though the information
about the era is largely about the United States and Russia. The United States was aligned with western nations while Russia was in concert with some of the eastern countries
("Cold War," 2008). Then, the countries that were not in alliances would comprise a third group of countries ("Cold War," 2008). Still, the cold war is mostly about the U.S.
and Russia and the dangerous political game played at the time. Both nations had nuclear power ("Cold War," 2008). That is why the people were frightened, would build bomb shelters
and usher in a period of fear. This would lead to the McCarthy era where people were scrutinized and were not allowed to hold contrary beliefs. American citizens would lose
