suffered, courses or subjects that are less popular ma have seen cuts along with increased attention on efficiency measures such as levels of attainment. In this type of environment it
is important that funding goes to areas that have a benefit for the students. This means considering which assessment tools are productive and have value and which do not, so
that those without any value may be eliminated and the opportunity costs may be reduced. One of the more controversial areas
of assessment has been student attainment assessment categorised by race or ethnic background, this has been undertaken in many different areas, results may be classified by individual race, or simply
by white and non-white (Eisner, 2001). This practice of measuring attainment with reference to a students race may be seen as an antiquated practice that was brought in during the
days when it was important to ensure that there was equality in the educational system. In todays western world there is equal
access to education for all races, and may be argued as outdated and implying that there could be different standards expected simply due to race, making the assessment itself inherently
racist. Conversely it can be argued that equality can only be archived if it is monitored and tested. Other categories are also measures such as social class in order to
