overcome with the ability to work in teams to share tasks, rotate jobs and undertake enrichment programs. However, although there are some potential issues, teams may not always be able
to overcome the issues, and while they may serve to motivate and empower, they may also bring new problems into the workplace. To assess this the first stage is to
define the processes and theories that lead to the dehumanising of the workplace with repetitive tasks, and assess if dehumanising of the employees is a inherently and unavoidable outcome, making
the need to look for other approaches essential if employers want to avoid this issue. After this it is possible to assess whether or not teamwork is a suitable solution
to the dehumanization where it does occur, or if there are disadvantages associated with a teamwork approach. The concept of repetitive
work and dehumanisation is associated with the concept of scientific management. Scientific management is based on the work of Frederick Winslow Taylor where jobs were not only broken down into
component pars, but were examined in a logical manner, so that discretion on how to do the job was taken away from the employee, and the employer would dictate the
one best way for the job to be performed in order to increase efficiency. For example, at the Bethlehem Steel works, when studying the shovelling of coal by redesigning the
