realm or study of natural sciences. While it is true that studies are done and have to be proven to a statistical certainty, there is room for doubt. Can one
say for sure whether or not a broken home affects the future happiness of children? Many studies suggest broken homes are detrimental and there is anecdotal evidence to support that
idea, but one cannot say that a person who comes from a broken home will definitely be unhappy. Although social science is sometimes not an exact science, natural science is
really not exact either. There is no discipline that changes its mind more than medical science. One minute, science tells humans that studies show too much alcohol is detrimental, but
later studies reveal that one or two glasses of beer or wine per day is good for the heart. Does that mean everyone who drinks a glass or two of
wine will enjoy good health? No, and like the social science of sociology, there are usually no black and white answers in natural science despite the illusion that science is
exacting. Still, sociology has its critics. Salter (1996) rails on sociology as a discipline and claims that it has never really attained the status of a full scientific enterprise. The
author states that its essential flaw is its failure to accept its own limitations which are dictated by the facts of biology (1996). Contemporary sociology neglects or suppresses the
growing body of literature in respect to human nature that is uncovered by behavioral biology and related fields (1996). Sociology today is sometimes equated with the alchemy of the
Middle Ages and in spite of continuing controversy in respect to the margins, it is indisputable that humans have essentially immutable traits (1996). The classical sociologist
