and yet allow evil to exist. It seems incomprehensible to people that God could allow truly bad and horrible things to happen to people if he were good. It has,
in essence, long been a topic of controversy and confusion. The following paper examines how there can be God as well as evil, and that God can be good despite
the existence of evil and suffering. The paper also discusses St. Augustines take on this topic as well. Is God Good? In first examining the existence of a
God that is good and the existence of evil one must perhaps truly understand the existence of free will as is outlined in Christianity. In the beginning there was Adam
and Eve and they were given everything they could want, including free will. With that free will they made the choice of eating the forbidden fruit and thus being kicked
out of the Garden of Eden forever. All of their descendents would also have to live outside this garden of perfection because Adam and Eve possessed free will and their
choice led to this reality. Right from the beginning God could have protected them from the evil of the Devil, and he could have ultimately laid out their lives
for them, allowing them to live in a state of perfection. But, in so doing Adam and Eve would not have had free will. They would have been as the
angels, who have no free will and were created essentially to obey God, love God and have no choice in any matter. But, human beings are allowed to think for
themselves, make mistakes, and do things that are ultimately wrong. If God prevented them from doing wrong the world would be a perfect place, but people would not be what
