it occurs. If we look around the world today the views of crime differ, in some areas in the world it is against the law to drink alcohol, whereas it
is freely available in the west. There are also many other areas where cultural difference today can be seen as reflected in the views of what is and is not
a crime. Such as the way children are treated and allowed to work, or even allowed to be married or used as sexual objects to the way in which a
political power is criticised. Dependant on the culture these may or may not be crimes, or at least viewed as deviant behaviour. If we look at the work of
Marshall Clinard (1974) there is the use of the same approach to what is seen as criminal and deviance, looking at these theories we should not separate deviance from crime,
it is only a matter of extremity. Clinard defines deviance as a term that should only be used as behaviour that is disapproved of to such a degree that it
is impossible for the society to tolerate it. In this definition crime and delinquency are the most apparent form of deviance. Crime is any action that is against the laws
of the land, and as such needs to be a social construct as it is the laws that are developed by the government, usually seen as representative of the will
of the people in a democracy, which is a criminal act, and delinquency is the acts that may be criminal or just anti social. If we want to look
