level of physicians assisting in the end of someones life. With voluntary euthanasia the patient is normally alive and in a mental state wherein they can convey their wishes to
be "let go" from any artificial life support system or any type of treatment. Involuntary euthanasia is a bit trickier because it usually involves someone who is not in a
mental state where they can pass along their wishes. The decision of whether or not to take these people off of live support systems, systems they have perhaps been on
for years with no improvement, is left to family and the courts. The following paper argues that involuntary euthanasia is not something that should be widely accepted in our society.
The paper discusses the case of Terri Schiavo and examines why it is wrong, from an ethical perspective, to terminate someones life without their consent. Involuntary Euthanasia First off
we discuss the case of Terri Schiavo, a case that illustrates the complexity of this particular topic. "Schiavo was in her 20s when a medical emergency left her in her
current condition" (Richey, 2004; 02). For the past 14 years or more she has been kept alive through a surgically implanted tube that feeds her. "She did not have a
living will and is unable to communicate whether she wants to continue living" (Richey, 2004; 02). At this point we see that there is no one who can honestly
argue, at least honestly in the eyes of society, what the wishes of Schiavo would have been. There are those who claim that she had stated she would never wish
to be kept alive artificially, but these words, if true, are often spoken by people who have never experienced such a condition. Without being in the position people cannot honestly
