This may be with the use of dividends that are paid for shares, so the capital value of the fund is not impacted, alternatively it may be with the use of the capital growth and shares are sold to meet the income requirements (Howells and Bain, 2004) In any income fund there is the need for capital growth, if this is not the case the income that is produced will be losing value each year. However, with income requirements there is the needs for a greater level of stability as the fund income will be more sensitive. Looking at some of the potential investments we can choose what to put into the portfolio. The first of the investment choices is HSBC. This is a large international bank, so the investment should be shielded from poor performance in a single market. The shares are classified as stable, but if we look at this long term performance there has been growth, however, in the past few moths there has been a slight decline so there is a potential increase, but this will give the fund some stability. Along with this the ratings are all As. Citigroup is another stable share with a stable outlook and a high rating. However as well as stable shares Mitsubishi allows for the chance of income and capital growth as the outlook of this is positive. It is also a lower rated share meaning that there may also be an increase potential of return in line with the risk and return equation.
