meet the required quality of care standards. One way that the output of the hospital can be enhanced is through increased efficiency. A major goal of the hospital is to
increase efficiency, reducing the cost of caring for each patient without impacting on the quality of healthcare provided as well as protecting and growing revenues. A natural target is administration,
as this is often perceived as not having a support function rather than a direct impact on care. However, as a support function it is highly important, if letters do
not go to patients to tell them of their appointments and if records cannot be located there will be a waste of time, and time has a financial cost and
an opportunity cost. If time is not used efficiently fewer patients are treated and less revenue is raised. Making a capital investment in the software program has a number
of benefits as well as some challenges. The development of a system where patient records will increase efficiency as well as reduce potential delays and problems associated with erroneous filing.
The system will be a major investment, transferring patent records to a computer system, and ensuring that all relevant medical staff have access to that system. With patient records on
