Older teens and young adults want enough money to live on; in a few years theyll want enough live on, play with, buy toys with and save for retirement.
Still later theyll want enough in reserve to allow them to retire but maintain an active lifestyle that may include travel and certainly includes buying gifts for grandchildren.
Thus one goal common to most Americans is to gain money in some manner. Money itself is a tool and as such cannot
be a value, but certainly many use it as a unit of measure applied to various items they seek to measure. Money can be seen as a measure of
hard work, unearned privilege, status, power, security or a number of other items that may or may not be important to individuals. Security
can be defined as an American value, as it is a quality that many believe most should have. Children should be secure to the extent that they can feel
and live it; the elderly should not live in fear of anything external. Security occupies one of the foundational places on Maslows hierarchy of needs and certainly constitutes an
American value. Neither do we want anyone else dictating what constitutes security for any one individual; how we will sell our time in
exchange for money; where we can go; when we can travel; or how much education we can have. Americans are rabid for their freedom. The concept and fact
created the very foundation on which America was founded. A related concept Americans value is self determination. Justice is a basic American
