changes in the world around them in their life. They would perhaps have seen the arrival of television and electricity, as well as the arrival of the computer, world wars, and space travel. The following paper offers a hypothetical/tutorial interview with an elderly man who has seen such changes. Interview with an Elderly Individual The individual being interviewed is, according to the student requesting this paper, a man who is the grandfather of the students friend. He has essentially been a farmer most of his life, working with horses as a main source of machinery on the farm. One could perhaps state that he was born in 1920 which would make him 87 years of age or so. In 1920 people did have electricity, but not everyone had electricity. Many people lived without it and as such lived without many conveniences such as washing machines, refrigerators, and electric lights. It was also a time when many people did not have indoor plumbing or running water within a house. As such they would have to haul water and they would generally have an outhouse. With the previous information at hand the interviewer could ask, "What are your memories of your childhood without electricity, phones and plumbing (knowing the individual lived very rurally and thus did not have such amenities)"? The individual may have very fond memories of such a life. They may recall harsh winters when going outside in the middle of the night to use the bathroom was frightening, but exciting.
