the teenage years come around and the children struggle to find their unique identity away from parents there are many problems that can arise. In many ways the world today
can be a very frightening, and incredibly threatening, environment for young people as they seek their identity. They are vulnerable and they are perhaps more likely to succumb to peer
pressure at this time, seeking release through drugs, stealing, alcohol, or sex. While the world seems filled with possibilities, there are also elements that are incredibly dangerous and numerous pressures
that can influence a child to become involved in a lifestyle that is dangerous to their development, their life, and their future. The following paper presents a hypothetical situation involving
a parents teenage childs friend apparently stealing and being high on marijuana. The paper examines the situation and then discusses possible actions that the witnessing parent can take.
Intervention: Teen Problem The situation that has been offered by the student who is requesting this essay states, "You are the parent of
a 16 year old boy. You come home unexpectedly and find your door ajar. Inside, you discover your sons friend looking through a kitchen drawer." This teenager states that
he was only looking for a pencil and piece of paper so that he could leave a note for his friend, the parents child but yet, "On the counter next
to him is a lock-pick and some of your jewelry and he smells of marijuana." The parent then tells the young man he must leave now. The boy does just
that, without struggling or becoming aggressive it seems. At this point the student requesting the paper asks what the witnessing parent should do.
