or more ago. Also in todays society people are generally quite focused on culture and the identity of cultures. Such realities as acculturation and assimilation bring to mind the fact
that many cultures are losing some of their identity. This brings us to the question of whether or not many interracial marriages, marriages between African Americans and Caucasians, can be
one of those social conditions that lead to the destruction of ones personal culture. The following paper examines a few articles, summarizing them, which relate to this subject. The paper
then discusses if more information would be needed in order to do a thorough research on this particular topic. Interracial Marriages The first article to be examined is
by a group called Hubbynet (2004). The author discusses how interracial marriages are looked down upon by society and how this can cause problems for the cultural identity of the
couple, as well as the children. The author presents one individual, an adult of an interracial marriage, stating that this woman has predominantly chosen to be with African American friends.
"Here, she said, she feels comfortable and historically grounded. She has found family there, whereas no white people have embraced her with their culture" (Hubbynet, 2004). She stated that
in order to claim her white heritage she would essentially have to have her mother along to prove she was also Caucasian (Hubbynet, 2004). As such it is far easier
to choose her African American Heritage. In addition, the author notes that "Lisa Jones grew up not learning about both cultures so she has lived her life as black and
