the most significant problem facing the nations concerns the ways in which culture intersects with education because providing every student in the public school with a solid foundation of knowledge
and skills is essential to having a well-informed, skilled American work force. The readings and literature that have been surveyed within the context of this topic indicate that the scope
of topics involved in understanding the various nuances of this topic encompasses an intellectual landscape that is quite complex. Several of the authors surveyed offer insight into the complicated
nature of what is meant by culture. Culture, according to author Raymond Williams, is one of the "most complicated words in the English language" because it is used to refer
to so many different important concepts within several distinct disciplines (Kumaravadivelu, 2008, p. 9). Hilliard defines culture as the "ways that groups of people have created to use and define
their environment" (Hilliard, 1997, p. 229). Culture also informs the ways in which both individuals and groups formulate psychological concepts that serve to guide various factors in their lives
(Kumaravadivelu, 2008). There are also various epistemological concepts that elaborate on what is meant by "culture," such as the definition of "civilization,"
and also how the idea of "class" enters into this equation. For example, Weis finds that issues concerning class, within the general context of culture, are "nested," that is embedded
in concepts associated with both race and gender (Weis, 2008, p. 292). The scholarship of Lee (2008) perfectly exemplifies the concepts discussed by Weis, as Lee describes how the "class"
