conflict becomes very real. Interpreters play a vital part in international relations, whether they are in the political arena, in marketing and trade, or elsewhere. This paper looks
at the way interpreters work, and discusses possibilities for the future of interpretation services. Traditional Interpreting Traditional interpreting is done by a person who understands the languages being spoken
by the participants in the meeting, conference, or other gathering, and translates from one language to another so that everyone understands whats happening. The "highest level of spoken interpreting"
is the "simultaneous" type, which is used at the U.N. (Shiffman, 2003). Here the interpreter translates as the speaker talks. Simultaneous interpretation is also the technique of choice
for large conferences; interpreters in this setting, as at the U.N., are enclosed in the glass-fronted booths familiar to everyone (Vidal-Hall, 1996). Something I didnt know about this method

doesnt understand Russian, he could listen to a colleagues English translation of the Russian speech and translate the English to Spanish (Vidal-Hall, 1996). "Consecutive interpreting is a more flexible style,
and occurs when the speaker says one or two sentences, then pauses to give the interpreter a chance to repeat the words in another language (Shiffman, 2003). A third
