the OPEC member countries will take more than some simple improvements to sustain the organization (Amuzegar 1997). The greatest dilemma facing OPEC is the capacity needed to sustain it.
This brings us to the question of who should pay for it. Current studies show there could possibly be the need for an additional twenty to twenty-five billion dollars
of investments in order to meet the capacity required. Some estimates go even higher. Regardless of the numbers it is extremely possible that neither the OPEC members nor
anyone else would be willing to undertake what is required to meet these figures. It would take the assurance of a secure market at profitable prices to consider such
an undertaking to say the least, and while it would be tempting to do so it is obvious that these assurances cannot be made (Amuzegar 1997). While the globalization of
an industry depends upon a firms competitive position in one country being significantly affected by its position in other countries, we find that global industry is not just a collection
of domestic industries but a group of linked industries in which the rivals compete against each other on a worldwide basis. There are intercountry connections. When asking
the question of ourselves whether globalization can be sustained, in light of OPEC it is obvious this is not something that is simply controlled by the people of various nations.
While outside factors as diverse as weather can affect this, consider OPECs dwindling influence in the world oil markets. This was apparent in the 1980s and we saw
