reflect with trepidation about the nature of these types of negotiation processes and their capacity for defining sustainable agreements. Perhaps one of the most interesting and studied periods in American
history related to international negotiations was during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962. During this period, fear of Communism and the spread of the "red" threat ran
high and political leaders struggled within the choices of men like John F. Kennedy regarding the nature of American interventions in Cuba and the immediacy of the need for international
diplomatic efforts. Further, negotiation processes that were shaped both by the history of the era and the fear of Communist rule did not reflect the United States best efforts.
Different interpretations of these days often relate varied views on communications between the United States and the Soviet Union and the roles of men like President Kennedy, Premier Khrushchev,
