Communication will take place on a verbal level, but also a non verbal level with aspects such as body language and culture impacting the way communication takes place and how it is interpreted. This can be probematic in a single culture, so if this takes place on an international setting there are many potential barriers to successful communication negotiation caused by the different cultures. The most obvious difference is that of language. Not just the native speaking language but the way in which it is used. In the United States, it is normal to use a very casual form of English. Colloquialisms and shortened words are acceptable not in only everyday language but in language used in formal everyday settings. Other countries such as Scandinavian and Japanese cultures are different, the native language is not so informal, and if the common language being spoken is English this additional formality will find its way into the spoken language. This is not the only stumbling block, there is also the additional problem of which version of English is being spoken. As Sweden is a European country it is likely that it will be English English as opposed to American English, in Japan it may be American English, and even in this there are differences in meanings and inferences of particular phrases. For example to go into a mens ware shop and ask for a pair of pants would result to completely different purchases. In America the purchase would result in a pair of trousers whereas in Europe it would be seen to mean underwear.
