blue sites and red sites, comparing some of the international websites of Coca-Cola and Pepsi is reminiscent of comparing the states won by the mainstream political parties during the last
presidential election. If the page is blue and it features a cola, it almost assuredly is a Pepsi site. Likewise for Coca-Cola, the sites differ between countries but
all of them begin with a very red welcome page. Pepsi Sites The main site in the United States (www.pepsiworld. com) features a
glass into which ice cubes drops and then cola pours, complete with sound effects. A bowl of curly fries is nearby, and one of them uncurls, reaches out for
the filled glass and pulls it closer. It could be enlightening to hear what dietary specialists would say about this depiction of the "great American diet."
Two of the international sites - those for Russia (www.pepsi.ru) and Australia (www.pepsi.com.au) - feature images identifiable to the citizens of those countries. They also
seem to reflect national character. The Russian site is loud and energetic; the Australian site is a view of a calm and very neat apartment. The site targeting
France (www.pepsi.tm.fr) falls somewhere between the two, with several frames of text included on a page that also includes "Pepsitown," featuring animated people milling around rather aimlessly. Coca-Cola Sites
This companys main page (www.cocacola.com) is a nearly-solid red banner. The Russian site (www.cocacola.ru) also is solid red, with links identified as click
spaces on a Coca-Cola bottle. Sites for France (www.coca-cola.fr) and Belgium (www.cocacola.be) both feature street scenes that the site visitor can pan across, complete with recorded street sounds.
