HUMAN RIGHTS International law for human rights is instrumental in helping individual nations regulate their interrelated affairs; if and when this body of rules is either ignored or blatantly
disregarded, such disrespect for all other countries involved must be dealt with accordingly. This is the primary importance of effective sanctions, which serve to control appropriate activity in and
among the participating nations that abide by international law. Without such enforcement in place, it would be questionable as to the level of neighborly behavior and steadfast faithfulness regarding
human rights that would exist. Some theorists, such as John Austin, Thomas Hobbes and Samuel Pufendorf, have contended that since international law maintains no officially ruling entity in order
to enforce its principle, it cannot be considered a true law. While this may be somewhat factual, international law is addressed as more of law in practice as opposed
to one that is governed by a collective source. This interpretation is precisely the reason why effective sanctions are so critical to the survival of international law, for without
this controlling entity there would be no sense of responsibility. With no modicum of regulation within the framework of international law, it would be far too easy for nations
to ignore various aspects of the law with which they felt they did not have to comply. Such ethical abandon would soon run rampant if even the smallest infractions
