are more markets with a wide level of needs and also increased competition in home markets. This was recognised by Nike early I the company development, which has resulted in
a strategy to maximise the advantages of global trade, seeking to minimise costs and increase sales tough global sales. The reduction of costs also facilitates selling at lower prices in
various countries where income levels are different. Nike is a well known brand name for sportswear, including footwear. Named after the Greek
Goddess of Victory this firm has attempted to emulate its namesake and become a major supplier, and in doing so has met with much success. As such this is an
image and brand that has a universal meaning and is suitable of use in the global arena. This American based firm sells anything sports related from trainers and football boots
to T-shirts and sweatbands, however, only a small amount of this may be manufactured in the countries where it has the largest sales, this is due to the desire to
maximise returns, and countries where there are the lowest wages are not attractive as a sales outlet, but are attractive to the production of goods (Thompson, 1998). Therefore we
can see how the company has used related diversification to expand its market how this has also attracted international criticism and how this has been dealt with.
