known Guinness case, this is where there was the use of privileged information for personal gain. The outline of this case is that Gerald Ronson made a deal with Earnest
Saunders in which he would be buying Distillers at a purposefully deflated price and then repaying any money if the share price fell, this was amounting to theft, and as
such Ronson was found guilty, served with a five million pound fine and sentenced to two years imprisonment (Waller, 1992). The entire fiasco
was illegal, and the problem with this case was not only the detecting of the case, which was certainly a problem, but also the way in which it is dealt
with when detected. The first problem may be seen as communication problems ands the way that the SFO (Serious Crimes Office) is unable to deal with city finance and fraud
cases successfully. The SFO withheld information form a 1988 Licensed Dealers Tribunal where there was evidence of unlawful trading (Marckus, 1995), and then when it came time for the
prosecution the case was so complex it became almost impossible to present a case to an untrained jury (Dyer, 1992). Therefore the
general legal system seemed to let down the financial regulatory systems when fraud or malpractice was detected. We can argue that for specialist trials like this there may need to
alternative system from the normal, where experts are used at jurors, in order for the intricacies to be understood. We can argue that there also needs to be a closer
